ACE Camp Day 2

wow, woke up at 6.05 today morning. We had abseiling and jungle survival today. Say 2 very slack activities on one day. Cool.

ZOMG, SJI, which is a very traditional school, actually brought along the School flag, 1 bagpipe, 1 trumpet to have flag raising ceremony!! QQ i know. How many schools would actually do that?!

Breakfasted at Fly Cafe again. Not bad. though the flies seemed more persistent than ever.

Abseiling was simple. 1 storey high? And NCC camp was like 4-5 stories high? Only thing is that Mr. Irwan purposedly did not want to use a safety line to let us feel the control. So that means if you do let go of your rope, then you will plunge down and splatter. Actually you won't. Probably a broken neck or limb. Yeah. And i got the "Commando". He's this really huge and strong guy with gigantic muscles and look like a Thai. He rarely speaks. If he does, he shouts. He has like coutless of scars on his body, including one which stretched from his right breast to his ribs area. He wears all black, like a commando. Everyone tries not to get into his way. And he almost screwed one guy who spoiled the equipment. Those huge bulky safety thingys? They are supposed to hold up to 700 kg. He took just once push with a plier and the thingy was forced apart. He's freaky..

Went for lunch. Lunch was the same. The meat always is the best part of the meal.

Went for jungle survival next. The moment you stepped onto the jungle floor, thousands of sand flies flew up and started attacking us. And i forgot to put on my insect repellent which could repell sandflies. Dang. I took on the role as food finder and off i went, with bowei, to fish.

Dang. We only had a hook, float, weights and string to fish. One of the most essentail parts of fishing was missing!! The Bait!! So my plan was to just use the drag-n-hook method to catch fish. We secured the hook and float to the string and we threw it out into the lake. Then we reeled in the line. Of course we did not catch any fish at all. We had a time limit. @@ So we went back and had a debrief. Jungle survival was the slackiest of all activities.

Our supposedly sturdy tent crashed!! due to the heavy rain over hte last 2 days, around three thirds of the tents crashed. The skeleton gave way to the elements. Lots of people were unhappy.. and i shifted with Jireh and Hui Wen to Leee Xun's tent/ They were so kind to take us in. There were now 9 people in an 8 men tent not counting the luggages. Luggages took up about the space of 4 people. The 203 guy shifted out to let us sleep. Really nice of him.

Wheew..supposed to have field cooking today but it rained. So no field cooking!! That decreased the diarrhoea rate by alot. Though i saw one guy sitting outside the teachers' house due to diarrhoea. Dinner was alot better today. It seemed that food improved with each passing meal. Lots of people had depression by this time. All could not wait to get over the dang camp.

At night, we had to arrang sleeping positions. So i took up the extreme side of the tent which was supposedly to be leaky. But it turned out as one of the best places because i could stretch m,y leg without hitting anyone. Slept from 9 p.m.-6.30a.m the next morning.
